RENOVATIONS · BAU LÜTZ

A new future
for what’s here.

Renovation starts by recognising the value of a building and helping it work better. We begin with the materials, spaces and qualities already there, before deciding what to add.

Less waste. More considered choices.

WORK ON EXISTING BUILDINGS

From method to place.

Meyrin and Genthod describe two interventions in the Canton of Geneva. Their pages present the context and the status of the documentation.

Let’s talk →

OUR STARTING POINT

Before buying,
look at what is already there.

A floor, a door, a beam or a stone can still have a great deal to offer. We assess what to retain, repair or reuse, and what needs replacing. Reuse comes before recycling; new materials are introduced where they are really needed.

01

Retain

We keep elements that work and qualities that give a building its character. A measured approach avoids unnecessary demolition and purchases.

02

Recover and reuse

We examine the condition of materials and options for cleaning, repair and reuse. Where reuse is unsuitable, we consider recycling options.

03

Improve

Light, comfort, spatial organisation and energy performance guide the work. Respect for an existing building goes hand in hand with today’s needs.

FROM SURVEY TO SITE

A clear process,
one decision at a time.

  1. Read the building

Survey, condition and needs: we understand the existing building and listen to the people who use it.

  2. Take stock

We identify elements to retain, recover or replace, together with the checks each decision requires.

  3. Compare the options

We consider design, construction work, timing and budget together before committing to the details.

  4. Coordinate the work

We organise the work and attend to the details, from reclaimed material to the finished result.

RESOURCES AND BUDGET

Value does not come
from buying more.

Reuse can reduce new purchases and waste, benefiting resources and the client’s budget. Each choice still needs checking: recovery, labour, transport and service life all matter. We compare options to invest where an improvement makes a real difference.
